Time marches on! Sue and I are enjoying retirement in Phoenix, AZ. Winters can be a bit harsh here...temps usually in the low 40s at night and 65-72 in the day. We don't miss raking leaves, mowing 1/2 acre of lawn, and shoveling snow. We do miss seeing friends and family; but one of my brothers lives in Phoenix, our daughter and husband live in Tempe, and our son and wife live in Encinitas, CA. Their house is 10 minutes from the beach which makes a great vacation in the summer when the monsoons come. Come and visit...we have extra room for visiting friends! Sorry to not be able to attend the party this summer. Both kids got married last year which means we are still recovering from those $$ events!

Greetings! I'm still alive and kicking, though somewhat gingerly. I still work as a sociology professor at Smith College, and have just published a book that I had been working on since two reunions ago. It's called French Gastronomy and the Magic of Americanism, and was published by Temple University Press in November 2018. I'm doing well and (mostly) feeling pretty well these days. I'm leaving in a few days on a three week trip to Vietnam (while I missed having to go there in 1969, I thought I might eventually make it under better circumstances). I'll be bringing my two twenty-something daughters for their college graduation gifts and am very excited about this trip. I am going to try hard to make it to Pince Haven on July 13th, although I have a two week vacation rental on Cape Cod that begins on the 13th. I'll do what I can to be able to come though and I very much hope to see you there! Cheers. Rick

Hi everyone.  Just got back from NC again and had a GREAT visit with Paul and Carol Begley.  They have a beautiful condo on Oak Island, NC.  Three of their grandchildren were there plus Paul's brother and sister-in-law.  We had a fine lunch and an afternoon on the beach (100 yards away).  Paul says he has gray hair but not as much as mine.  C'est la vie!  As always, Paul and Carol are the nicest people in the world.  Hope to see you other guys soon.  We have a party to attend in Glens Falls tomorrow but hopefully will make the evening "do".  Love to all!

What a wonderful weekend of connections, laughs, memories and can-you-believe-it? !!  Kudos to the planning committee, to Mr. M.C. Mike Havern and  Jack Clark and his band (in the can-you believe it category). What fun it was to see all of you and re-live those fun times of high school. I agree with Ian (see below). We have all gone our separate ways, but it sure is great to remember our roots together at GCHS. If anyone travels to Syracuse - you are welcome to contact me.

Nothing as eloquent as Ian's, but I also wanted to note what a special occasion it is to catch up with high school friends and acquaintances.  I enjoy college and grad school reunions, but there is nothing like high school relationships -- people who in many cases we've known since kindergarten or elementary school, with such a shared understanding of our core personalities and foibles.  How quickly they become so familiar again.  Thanks to all the organizers and attendees for making my life fuller.

Speaking of which, Joannah/Janet, I hope you'll be playing harmonica with Yesterday Today from now on.  I'll plan my next visit back for one of the band's gigs.  Jack, thanks for whipping the band into such great shape.

By the way, I forgot to mention two items in my remarks at the reunion.  The first (in conjunction with our recognition of classmates with military service) was that I was proud to attend the ceremony in Washington a few years ago where Jack Clark was promoted to Major General in the Air Force.  The second, on a sadder note, was to send condolences to Bob Yorio, whose mom passed away a week before our reunion.

Maggie's on 7/10 was so much fun.  Thanks to the committee for inviting the Class of 1970.  We were well represented - 10 of us!  The evening brought a lot of laughs and poignant smiles, also many leads to people from my year.  Our committee has just started planning for our 40th next year, if you have info about people from the class of '70 would you please send it my way?  I'm spearheading the search for classmates and in charge of maintaining the roster.  If we do even half the wonderful job the 1969 committee did, we'll have a wonderful reunion as you all did.  Thanks again.

Dear Judi,

I just wanted to say how nice it was to see you at the reunion. I know the kind of effort that goes into arranging such things and you and the committee are to be commended for a job well done. As it has been twenty years since my last reunion I was a little worried that I would remember no one and, even more frightening on a personal level, that no one would remember me. Admittedly, it took me awhile with faces, but as soon as I heard the voices it all came back. It's funny that voices never change, and nor do smiles.
It was so good to see friends that I had been close to in the 60s, but it was also sad to learn that some close friends that I had hoped to see could not make it. People often wonder why do reunions at all? We  all know that we can't go back in time, but that's okay. Reunions are not just about linking with specific people, because if we wanted to do that they are only a phone call or email away. Reunions are more about tradition and attending them is simply a way for each of us to say that the people of our past are important to us; all the people, not just some.
For example, I spoke with a number of people at the reunion that I barely knew in high school, but that mattered little. We relived memories of elementary school, laughing about teachers who were older than sin to us then, but who we now know must have been no more than forty. I also spoke with folk who I never knew at all, but that didn't matter either. These individuals proudly showed me photos of their cute grandchildren and I admired them as much as I would my own. One wonders just why so many people would come halfway across a country merely to spend five or six hours walking down memory lane with people whom they meet but once a decade? To me the answer is easy. We do so because the people and places of our past really are important. Having Don Gillespie tap me  on the opposite shoulder, reciting the Gettysburg address in concert with Mike Havern, reminiscing about English muffin pizza pies with Sandy Cramer, rememberingg "Night of the Living Dead" with Lester  Mackey, or reliving demerits earned in the "Army Club" with John Brittell. Where else can I go for such memories? Where else on this planet do bonds such as this exist?
Reunions are celebrations of time spent together. We have so little time in our lives and each has gone his or her separate ways, but for some reason unbeknownst to us we were all thrown together into the same mass of humanity in our youths. Each of has been impacted by those with whom we grew up, whether good or bad, and reunions are recognitions of such.  Making the effort to come together says we care about those who happened to share our past. At the same time, reunions help us form new bonds and even help guide and strengthen our future. No one can  say just where we will be ten years from now, or even if we will be here, but as long as there are reunions then we recognize that we are all in it together.
Thanks to you and to the committee overall for realizing just how  important these events are in our lives.
Cheers,
Ian

If anyone is interested in playing along with a song or two (or singing) - please send me a note and I will get back to you and pick a song from our list. I will have an extra guitar or you can bring your own if youwant and plug in with us. We have some harmonica volunteers and a few classmate singers so far on selected songs. If you have a song you want to hear (50's - 90's) - we will try to learn it - just tell me - we will do our best with it and you can just listen and laugh if you want. If you want to solo on a song, you can use my equipment for that too.

I won't be at the reunion as I will be attending a family event the weekend before and two back-to-back trips from Maine aren't going to work out.  Have a great time everyone.  Hope to see some pictures on the website from the reunion.

A lot has happened in 40 years. My second husband Bill and I have been married for 27 years. We are both retired, Bill was a professional Circus Clown. Yes, and can honestly say "I married a clown". I have two kids from my first marrige (Tom Phillips class of 68). I also have 3 grandchildren, Tyler 17, Kylie 14 and Marissa 11. I won't be able to make it to the reunion. I have really enjoyed this website. I hope that some of you still remember me and send me an e-mail.
